Les Amis du Fort de Chartres was awarded over $30,000 in grant money from IL Humanities between the years 2018-2023. These awards meant so much to our organization and in turn, to our community-as tourism to our site and our area struggled in the absence of the Fort’s annual special events due to flooding concerns and COVID-19. These awards contributed to the  publication of our book, French Colonial Fort de Chartres, A Journey in Time, and brought back vital special events that breathe life into our local and regional centuries-old history and the communities that have depended on our joint efforts/partnerships to survive and thrive. Thank you to Illinois Humanities* for these much needed and appreciated 2018-2023 grant awards that strengthened our LAdFdC organization.

*Illinois Humanities, the Illinois affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, is a statewide nonprofit organization that activates the humanities through free public programs, grants, and educational opportunities that foster  reflection, spark conversation, build community, and strengthen civic engagement.”
